Data center

In a country where we are always connected, where with a click we can manage emails, archives, and instantly connect with the whole world, data processing centers (DPCs), better known as data centers, have become a key pillar of digital infrastructure.

The Italian government has defined them as “critical infrastructure” on which, in emergency situations, the lives of those connected to them depend, just like electricity or water services.

With the continuous growth in demand for cloud services, which benefit both private individuals and public administrations, new-generation data centers have become indispensable in supporting businesses in their digital transformation.

Data centers are physical structures that house all the equipment necessary to manage, store, and process data; they house servers, routers, and other components necessary for data processing; they ensure the continuous operation of services and operations connected to the network; they allow users, both private and non-private, to remotely access applications, emails, photos, and data in general. They therefore need to be connected to the electricity grid and the network 24 hours a day. To ensure operational continuity, they are equipped with redundant power supply systems, uninterruptible power supplies, and emergency generators.

In Italy, the sector is growing at a rapid pace, with investments of €5 billion planned for the construction and expansion of new data centers in Italy.
